KARACHI, Dec 26: The second phase of re-settlement of the people affected by the Lyari Expressway project has begun with the commencement of their rehabilitation in Taisar Town.

Project Director, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, on Friday held a meeting with the office-bearers of the Gulbahar Sanitary Association to ensure supply of construction material at the rehabilitation site at less than market prices.

The association representatives, assuring Mr Parach of their all out cooperation in this regard said that the affectees at the Hawkesbay and Taisar Town were being provided material at lower rates.

It was decided that more shops would be opened at the site for supply of construction material at lower prices, and a meeting of three sanitary associations— Gulbahar, Bohra Pir and Saddar, would be convened soon in this regard.

The associations are already operating such shops in the sanitary market at Hawkesbay project.

Development works in Taisar Town had already been initiated before the start of rehabilitation process. The water, sewerage and electricity projects are almost complete, while work on other development schemes is progressing at fast pace.

Under the rehabilitation scheme in Taisar Town, initially 600 families have been given plots and Rs50,000 each.

Some 150 families had started construction of their houses at the new site, it was told.—APP
