Zeeshan claims U-19 squash trophy

KARACHI: Promising second seed Zeeshan Gul annexed boys under-19 title when he stunned top seed Nasir Khan 3-1 in the all-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa final of the sixth Rehana Nazar national junior squash championship which concluded at Rashidabad, Tando Allahyar, on Tuesday.

Zeeshan fought back from a game down to clinch the following three to the sheer surprise of fraternity of the game.

He won the duel 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 that lasted 41-minutes.

Contrary to boys, Madina Zafar of the SNGPL retained the girls under-19 crown by getting the better of last year’s under-15 champion Komal 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 in the final that lasted 20-minutes.

Last year’s runner-up and top seed Amna Fayyaz made amends while landing the girls under-15 title. She carved out a straight 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 victory over second seed Noor-ul-Ain.

Third seed Asadullah Khan and fourth seed M. Ammad, both from the PAF, sent top seeds packing to claim the boys under-15 and under-13 titles respectively.

The boys under-17 title went to Uzair Rasheed while Usman Nadeem bagged the boys under-11 title.

The senior vice-president of the Pakistan Squash Federation retired Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab, who graced the finals, gave away the prizes. Also present on the occasion were Air Cdre Ershad Ahmed, retired Air Cdre Nayyar Q. Khawaja, Iqbal Samad, retired Air Cdre Shabbir Ahmed Khan and secretary Sindh Squash Association Rashid Ahmed.

Cash prizes of Rs3,00,000 were disbursed among winners, runners-up in addition to trophies.

Boys’:

Under-19: Zeeshan Gul (KP) bt Nasir Khan (KP) 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4.

Under-17: Uzair Rasheed (Punjab) bt Uzair Shaukat (PAF) 11-4, 6-11, 11-4, 11-9.

Under-15: Asadullah Khan (PAF) bt Farhan Hashmi (Punjab) 9-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.

Under-13: M. Ammad (PAF) bt Tayyab Rauf (Punjab) 11-2, 10-12, 11-9, 11-5.

Under-11: Usman Nadeem (Punjab) bt Khaqan Malik (Punjab) 11-6, 4-11, 11-8, 11-7.

Girls’:

Under-19: Madina Zafar (SNGPL) bt Komal (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) 11-6, 11-7, 11-6.

Under-15: Amna Fayyaz (PIA) bt Noor- ul-Ain Ejaz (Punjab) 11-3, 11-7, 11-4.
