KARACHI: Police and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Monday conducted a joint raid in the electronics market in Saddar and detained two shopkeepers while seizing certain devices from their custody as part of their recent focus to curb the menace of street crime in the metropolis.

The police’s recently established Anti-Mobile Phone Snatching Cell with the CPLC conducted the raid on intelligence reports that some shopkeepers of the market were unblocking/changing the IMEI numbers of snatched, stolen and blocked phones, said Special Investigation Unit SSP Mohammad Farooq Awan, who also leads the anti-mobile snatching cell.

As a result of the raid, two shopkeepers named Mohammad Waqas of Canan Communication in Al-Haroon Market and Danish of Qawaswa Communications in the Coins Code Market were arrested and devices and mobile phones were seized from them, added the senior officer while speaking at a press conference at his office.
