PESHAWAR: The business community has hailed appointment of Dr Mohammad Irshad as acting chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue and said that he would take effective steps for resolving problems facing the community.

In a joint statement issued here on Saturday, small industrials estate association, Hazara president Haji Iftikhar Ahmed, Hazara tax bar association vice president Rashid Javed, hotel and restaurants association representative Boby Joseph and city traders association president Ashfaq Ahmed expressed the hope that the new FBR acting chief would pay heed towards problems of the business community.

They said that Dr Irshad, who brought rich experience to the taxation machinery, was the right choice for the senior most position of the FBR. They recalled that in past as senior member of the board, Dr Irshad took a number of decisions and steps for welfare of the business community, and also had played a major role in achieving the targets set by the federal government with his business friendly policies.

They lauded Federal Finance Minister Ishaque Dar for making the pragmatic decision, and urged him to make Dr Irshad as permanent chairman of the board.
