ISLAMABAD: The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on Saturday asked the Pakistan government to investigate the fatal shooting of a journalist in Kalat, Balochistan.

In a statement, the media watchdog demanded action against those responsible for the killing of 37-year-old Mohammad Jan Shahbaz Samalani, who was returning to home late on Thursday night when targeted by unidentified assailants. The journalist worked for an Urdu-language daily Qudrat and was also teaching at a school.

No group claimed responsibility for the killing.
