SIALKOT, Jan 1: A villager died and another injured in a landmine blast at a border village of Bajwat sector, near the Sialkot Working Boundary, on Tuesday.

According to the official sources, Muhammad Javed (32) of Gagwal and Muhammad Siddique (35) of Sadarpura were coming to Bajwat on a bicycle which hit a landmine. They were admitted to Sialkot CMH in critical condition where Siddique died.

In a related development, the Indian security forces fired 15 heavy mortar shells on Pakistani border villages in Chhumb Joriyaan sector of the Working Boundary on Monday night.

According to official sources, these shells fell in the fields and exploded with thunder. No causalities were reported as the villagers had already evacuated. About 11 houses were badly damaged in this sector. Meanwhile, the Sialkot district government has declared an emergency in all departments.
