KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Sunday that his father and the party’s co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, would soon make what he called a surprise announcement regarding the party’s four demands to the government and about the political situation in the country.

He was talking to reporters after paying a visit to the Quaid-i-Azam’s mausoleum.

The PPP chairman was accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other PPP leaders.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari paid tributes to the father of the nation and said the latter achieved the task of freedom through a political struggle. The Quaid-i-Azam had a dream of enlightened Pakistan, he said, adding that “we would make Pakistan according to the vision of Quaid-i-Azam”.

When asked what announcement would Mr Zardari make about the PPP’s four demands and the opposition’s movement against the government, he said: “Wait a bit, Asif Zardari is going to make an important surprise announcement.”

When asked whether or not he was in contact with the children of his maternal uncle Murtaza Bhutto, he said Fatima Bhutto and Zulfiqar Junior were part of his family.

However, he said that he was not in touch with them since a long time. But, he added: “Doors of our heart are always open for them.”

After visiting the mausoleum, the PPP chairman along with Mr Shah and Deputy Speaker in the provincial assembly Syeda Shehla Raza paid a visit to the St Patrick’s church where he attended a function and cut the Christmas cake.

He extended greetings to members of the Christian community.
