Pashto film actor dies

PESHAWAR: Noted Pashto film actor Umar Daraz Khalil died at the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, on Friday after suffering a brain haemorrhage attack at his residence in Abbottabad a few days ago. He was first taken to the Ayub Medical Hospital and then brought to LRH where he remained in coma for two days.

Family and hospital sources said that the popular actor breathed his last at LRH on Friday evening. He is survived by a daughter and widow.

Umar Daraz was born in 1948 in Chamkani village and had got education up to intermediate level. He had launched his film career in 1971 from Pashto film ‘Dara Khyber’. He had performed in around 700 Pashto, Urdu and Punjabi films.

His funeral prayers will be offered at the ground of Government College, Peshawar, at 11:00am today (Saturday). He will be buried at his ancestral graveyard in Chamkani.
