GUJRANWALA, Dec 17: The local collectorate of sales tax and central excise has failed to achieve the target despite Central Board of Revenue (CBR) warning, it is learnt here on Wednesday.
The CBR chairman and member sales tax have reportedly warned the collectorate to achieve its target of Rs8 million up to Dec 16. But the collectorate could gather only Rs6 million.
It is stated that the collectorate started collection of sales tax and excise duty in advance from the industrialists to achieve the target. It sealed several industrial units during Ramazan on the charge of noncooperation with the collectorate by the industrialists instead of providing them relief.
JOBS REGULARIZATION: Service of teachers of workers welfare schools who were hired on contract basis would be regularized soon.
This was stated by provincial Minister for Labour and Manpower Akhtar Rizvi at a meeting at the Peoples Colony Workers Welfare School here on Wednesday.
He said a summary has already been sent to the chief minister for approval.
He said the issue of their salaries and annual increments would also be resolved.
Mr Rizvi stressed the teachers to work diligently for the promotion of education as the government had allocated sufficient funds for the purpose in the budget.
INAUGURATED: District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha inaugurated a new hall at the Government College for Boys, Satellite Town, here on Wednesday.
He said on the occasion that a computer centre and a library would be set up in the college shortly.
He said Rs500,000 have been spent on the construction of hall.
ARRESTED: Baghbanpura police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested after a brief encounter six hired outlaws, including the ring leader, involved in killing of an MPA’s nephew and a truck driver.
DPO Saud Aziz on a tip-off that a gang of hired outlaws were present in a rented house in Baghbanpura directed the police to conduct a raid there and arrest them. The police reached there and surrounded the house. Getting wind of the police arrival, the outlaws opened fire on them which was returned. The shootout continued for sometime after which the lawbreakers laid down their arms. The police also recovered illicit arms from their possession
The arrested outlaws, included ring leader Zulfikar Ali alias Zulfi, Sharif, Muzaffer, Nasir, Shahid Iqbal and Munawer Hussain.
The arrested accused had allegedly killed Babar Dogar, the nephew of MPA Chaba Dogar, and truck driver Muhammad Boota at the behest of their rivals a few months ago in Sheikhupura.
LOOTED: Unidentified bandits looted the house of a councillor and a cotton factory and also took away two motorcycles in four strikes in and around the city here on Wednesday.
Two outlaws barged into the house of councillor Muhammad Khalid on Gondlanwala Road.
They held the inmates hostage, collected 105 tolas of gold, Rs25,000 in cash, a mobile phone and other valuables and escaped on their motorcycle.
Some half a dozen bandits busted into the cotton factory of Muhammad Younas in Kamoki. Armed intruders held up workers and locked them in a room. They loaded cotton worth Rs0.5 million on a truck and escaped.
Zubair of Sheikhupura Road and Muhammad Ali of Baghbanpura locality were deprived of their motorcycles by four robbers when they were on their way homes from the market.
Police have registered separate cases.
