PESHAWAR, Dec 17: Three persons were killed and four wounded critically on Wednesday when an unexploded ordnance went off in a scrap dump in Parachinar, Kurram Agency.

Eye witnesses told Dawn by telephone from Parachinar that one Afghan refugee Abdullah Jan, the scrap dealer died on the spot, while two locals Mohammad Amin and Syed Riaz Hussain breathed their last in the Agency Headquarter Hospital.

The wounded who have been identified as Laiq Hussain, Sammad Khan, Ali Ghulam and Sayed Kameen Hussain were rushed to the hospital with fatal injuries. The condition of Ali Ghulam was critical.

Witnesses said that the scrap, contains unexploded missiles, bomb shells and other explosive devices, brought from Afghanistan was dumped near the city’s Government Degree College building.

One of the ordnance went off around 12.15 noon, which killed the owner Abdullah Jan on the spot. The explosion rocked the entire locality. Local people and political authorities started rescue work and recovered the wounded from the debris.
