Six people including three girls and three boys were killed allegedly over the pretext of 'honour' in Jacobabad, Qambar Shahdadkot and Khairpur Mirs districts of Sindh on Tuesday, it has been learnt.

Teenage cousins killed in Jacobabad

"A teenage girl identified as Gul Bano, 16, and her cousin Dur Muhammad, 18, son of Hakim Wessar, were killed over the pretext of honour killing by the father of the girl, Mushtaque Wessar, by beating them with baton and later strangling both to death," said SHO Sadar police station Ayaz Pathan.

Ayaz Pathan further informed DawnNews that police had arrested the accused Mushtaque Wessar and brought the bodies of the deceased to District Headquarters Hospital Jacobabad for the post-mortem examination.

"After conducting post-mortem examination, the bodies were reportedly handed over to relatives of the victims for burial," Ayaz Pathan maintained.

First Information Report (FIR) against the accused was registered by the SHO Ayaz Pathan on behalf of the state.

Woman, her alleged paramour killed in Qambar

A woman named Zulekha, 24, and a man identified as Mohammad Yaqub Chandio were reportedly shot dead by husband of Zulekha within the jurisdiction of Qambar Police Station in Qambar Shahdadkot district on Tuesday.

"Police arrested the accused, who confessed to have killed both his wife and her alleged paramour 'for honour'," said a police official at Qambar police station.

Man kills niece, nephew in karo-kari incident

A suspect allegedly shot dead his niece Anila,18, and his nephew Jaffar Lashari,19, over the pretext of honour in Zahid Bambhar village area of Khairpur Mirs district.

An official of Pir Wasan police station, while talking to DawnNews, informed that the suspect has been arrested by the police.

However, an FIR was not registered with the police till the filing of this report.

It is pertinent to mention that FIRs in honour killing cases are registered on behalf of the state after a joint session of the Parliament unanimously approved anti-honour killing and anti-rape bills

In July, days after the 'honour' killing of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch, a committee comprising lawmakers from both the lower and upper houses of parliament unanimously approved two bills aimed at tackling 'honour' killings and boosting rape convictions.

The perpetrators of honour killings – in which the victim, normally a woman, is killed by a relative – often walk free because they can seek forgiveness for the crime from another family member.
