SAHIWAL: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) has decided to launch a ‘series of peaceful protests’ at nine divisional headquarters against ‘non–cooperative’ attitude of the Punjab Higher Education Department toward their charter of demands (COD) submitted on Sept 26 last.

The COD seeks time scale promotion, one step upgrade, pay and service protection of 6,500 contract lecturers and decentralization of powers to divisional directorates of education.

PPLA Central President Hafiz Abdul Khaliq told Dawn on Sunday, after chairing a meeting of PPLA’s divisional chapter here, the HED was using delaying tactics despite association’s meetings with Higher Education Secretary retired Capt Naseem Nawaz and Special Secretary Tahir Yousaf. He said the protest plan had been approved in the PPLA executive council meeting held at the MO College in Lahore on Saturday.

He said demonstrations would be held at the divisional headquarters -- DG Khan (Nov 26), Bahawalpur (Nov 28), Multan (Nov 30), Sargodha (Dec 5), Rawalpindi (Dec 6), Gujranwala (Dec 7), Faisalabad (Dec 12), Lahore (Dec14) and Sahiwal on Dec 3.
