A man in Multan allegedly threw acid at his wife, mother-in-law and sister-in-law on Wednesday, police said, leaving his sister-in-law hospitalised with burns.

The man, Shahbaz, and his wife, Anum, are currently separated and a case is pending before court for the dissolution of their marriage, Superintendent Police (SP) Gulgasht Ali Mardan Khosa said. It is unclear, however, when the case was filed.

Shahbaz and his accomplice, Imran, were waiting for the three women to pass by them in the market place and allegedly threw acid at them, according to police.

Anum's sister, 20-year-old Aroosa, sustained the most burns and was shifted to Nishtar Hospital by Rescue 1122.

Some acid also fell on Anum, but she is said to be out of danger, the SP said.

Khosa said that police had reached the site of the attack to collect evidence and start the investigation.
