KARACHI, Jan 1: The Jamaat-i-Islami has warned India to desist from any aggression against Pakistan saying that the entire nation will become like an impregnable fort for defence of the motherland in case of any eventuality.

Addressing the annual meeting of JI’s women wing here on Tuesday, secretary general of the party, Syed Munawwar Hasan, criticized the government for its heavy reliance on the US than the people. He said Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had taken the opposition into confidence to mobilise them against Pakistan.

The JI leader referred to what he termed the inept policies of the government, which according to him had deepened the crisis. He said the only respectable way left for President Pervez Musharraf was that the army should return to borders and a consensus interim government be formed to tackle the situation, besides holding free and fair elections for transfer of power to a democratically elected government.

He appreciated the role of women who did not leg behind from men in organizing rallies throughout the country for recording their protest against the government’s policies.

The JI leader urged the government to give a deadline to the US to vacate Pakistan’s air base.
