ISLAMABAD, Dec 12: A delegation of parliamentarians, belonging to the treasury and opposition benches, called on visiting British Foreign Office Minister Mike O’Brien at the British High Commission and briefed him on the recent political developments in the country, a source told Dawn here on Friday.

The delegation comprised PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, acting parliamentary leader of the PML-N, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, PPP Senator Enver Baig, Millat Party Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani, PTI MNA Imran Khan and MQM MNA Farooq Sattar.

The source said the treasury members informed the British minister of the steps taken by the government for restoration of democracy in the country.

The members of the coalition government said democracy had fully been restored in the country and all institutions were being run in accordance with the Constitution.

On the other hand, the source said, the opposition members informed Mr O’Brien that Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was a “puppet” prime minister and all powers were in the hands of Gen Pervez Musharraf.

He said the opposition members also expressed their concern over the support of the British government to the military regime in Pakistan.

He said they inquired from the British minister why the UK was supporting this type of democracy in Pakistan.
