GILGIT: Security at the Skardu airport has been beefed up after threats of possible terrorist attack.

The Gilgit-Baltistan home department, through a letter recently, had informed the CAA officials and district administration about possible terrorist attack threat at Skardu airport, and called for heightened security arrangements at the strip.

According to sources, a high level meeting was held at the Skardu airport on Saturday in the wake of the letter by the home department which took stock of the situation and ordered beefed up security at the airport. It was attended by district administration officials, DIG police Ashfaq Ahmed and officials of other relevant departments.

The meeting decided to deploy additional personnel of police, GB Scouts, and Airport Security Force at the airport to thwart any unpleasant incident.

Talking to Dawn, Skardu additional SP Ahmed Shabir Khan said that after the meeting additional police personnel had been deployed outside the airport.

The official said checking at entry and exit points of the airport had been enhanced.
