SUKKUR, Dec 11: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company on Wednesday disconnected power supply to 30 villages of Jacobabad due to non-payment of dues and also had 25 defaulters arrested from Thull town.
Police sources said that the persons were arrested on the directives of Hesco officials and those who cleared their dues were released.
The affected villages include Bago Bhutto, Shah Mohammad, Dost Mohammad, Mohammad Mithal, Mohammad Ayub and Zar Khan.
Villagers said that the SDO Hesco had not only disconnected the supply to the villages but also removed the transformers due to which those consumers who paid their bills regularly were also affected.
RAID: The Shikarpur police arrested eight persons after an encounter in Saddar Mohalla here on Wednesday following the killing of Shahid Noon some two days back and also recovered arms from their possession.
A strong contingent of police raided the houses of Israr Khan Pathan and Ahmed Khan Pathan in connection with the murder of Shahid Noon. The residents of both the houses opened fire on seeing the police which was returned.
The encounter lasted for a while after which the police arrested eight persons — Shaiq, Wali Mohammad, Ali Hassan, Luqman, Budhal, Manzoor, Alam and Mehrab — and recovered from their possession two repeaters, two double barrel guns, a rifle, two pistols and ammunition.
Further investigation was under way.
LOOTED: A Hindu goldsmith was deprived of gold, cash and other valuables by armed robbers in Sakrand on Wednesday.
About five armed men barged into the house of a Hindu goldsmith, Asar Das, and looted 200 grams of gold, Rs200,000 cash and other valuables and escaped.
However, a case was registered against five unidentified robbers with the Sakrand police.
ARRESTED: The Punjab police raided a village in Daharki and arrested two villagers on alleged charge of motorcycle theft on Wednesday.
The Kot Sabzal (Punjab) police entered Sadiq Shar village in the jurisdiction of the Daharki police station and arrested two villagers, Sanwal Shar and Bashir Shar, on the charge of stealing a motorcycle from Punjab.
Meanwhile, relatives of the arrested villagers told journalists that Bashir and Sanwal were returning home from work on their agricultural land situated at the Sindh-Punjab border when the Punjab police arrested them.
However, the Daharki police had no information of the incident.
