Policeman shot dead in Karachi's North Nazimabad

A policeman shot dead by unidentified assailants in Karachi's North Nazimabad neighbourhood on Saturday.

A gunman riding a motorcycle opened fire on the police constable, later identified as Munawwar, near Ziauddin Hospital while he was on the way for duty, police said in a press release.

The body of the 28-year-old constable, who was posted at New Karachi police station, was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Sindh Inspector General Police AD Khawaja sought a report into the incident from the SSP-West, and directed the police to collect necessary evidence.

The incident comes barely two days after another police officer was gunned down while he was travelling in a private vehicle in Karachi’s Korangi area.

Karachi, a city of around 20 million people and Pakistan's financial capital has been racked in recent years by criminal, ethnic, political and religious violence.

Police and Rangers are currently involved in an operation aimed at cleansing the city of terrorists and other hardcore criminals including hired killers, gun runners and drug peddlers.

RIP it's a very sad incident. Last week a young boy was killed under a fake operation by the police. All I am trying to say that Sindh police needs to go for a massive reforms. Looks like the new CM has failed to set up his priorities.

Where is security when two cops slained in two days time. Yesterday in Johar area I heard an inspector saying that govt is earning a lot from here but destroying itself this city. Imagine now. These comments are a true picture of the metropolis.

All Karachi policeman should have a bullet proof jacket. It is worthwhile investment. Lives matter, specially police force . Karachi police personnel must have protection since there are so many gangster runing around with weapons. I hope Sindh government allocate budget for bullet prof vest for every police officer.

Sindh government should and MUST prohibit double ride on any motor bike except women or children. No two men should be allowed regardless of age , no exception. This will protect lots of innocent lives lost due to killer riding bike, because single person can not shot while riding motor bike. This should be enforced immediately and forcefully throughout Sindh province. I know it will be hard in the beginning but long run it will save lives, which is more important then to suffer some inconvenience.
