Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif on Thursday confirmed the death sentences awarded to 10 'hardcore terrorists' tried by military courts, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations statement.

The 'terrorists' were members of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and were involved in the killing of innocent civilians, polio workers, non-governmental organisation employees, police officials and armed forces personnel, ISPR said.

Fire-arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession, the statement added.


The details of the convicts are below:

1. Muhammad Shahid Omar s/o Zaman Khan: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in the killing of two female workers of a polio vaccination team, 11 employees of an NGO and several civilians. He was also involved in attacking law enforcement agencies (LEAs) which resulted in death and injuries to police official and soldiers. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

2. Hussain Shah s/o Fazal-i-Hadi: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in attacking the armed forces which resulted in death of Major Mustafa, Captain Waseem, several soldiers and injuries to many other soldiers. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

3. Zafar Iqbal s/o Muhammad Khan: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in attacking LEAs which resulted in death of Subedar Awal Khan, Naik Azmat Ullah of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) and injuries to ASI of police Chanar Gul and Sepoy Shafique of the FC. The convict was also in possession of fire arms and explosives. He admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

4. Anwer Zeb s/o Tootkay: The convict was an active member of TTP, who was involved in abduction of retired Lt Col Khaqqan Afzal, slaughtering of SI (r) Umar Ghani and killing of a civilian. He was also in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

5. Obaid ur Rehman s/o Fazal Hadi: The convict was an active member of TTP, who was involved in killing of innocent civilians. He was also in possession of explosives. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

6. Sher Alam s/o Hanif ur Rehman: The convict was an active member of TTP, who was involved in attacking LEAs and killing of civilians. He was also in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

7. Atta Ullah s/o Muhammad Sultan: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in attacking LEAs which resulted in death of several soldiers and injures to Captain Asif. He was also in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

8. Mushtaq Khan s/o Saeed Gul: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in attacking LEAs which resulted in death of several soldiers and injures to Captain Asif. He was also in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

9. Asghar Khan s/o Nadar Khan: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in attacking LEAs which resulted in death of several soldiers and injures to Captain Asif. He was also in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.

10. Shams ul Qamar s/o Sha Gulbar: The convict was an active member of TTP. He was involved in attacking LEAs which resulted in death of police officials and injuries to civilians. The convict admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded a death sentence.
