HYDERABAD: An unknown woman took away a newborn boy from the gynaecology ward of the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH)’s city branch on Saturday, prompting police to start an investigation.

Sakina Solangi, wife of Khalid Solangi, a resident of Sekhat, had given birth to the baby at the house of a relative in Jamshoro district but due to some complications she had to be taken to the hospital. Shortly afterwards, her family members also brought the newborn to the hospital.

A woman who was seen talking to Ms Solangi in a long sitting reportedly took away the baby, according to initial investigation.

People in the ward said that the suspected woman, who was already present there while Ms Solangi was being provided treatment, kept talking with her and another patient in the ward. Ms Solangi’s mother was sitting outside the ward.

According to Ms Solangi and her relatives, the suspected woman asked her that her mother wanted to have the baby with her and the baby was handed over to her [the suspect], who disappeared with the baby moments later.
