GUJRANWALA: The government claims to be pursuing a case against the Nandipur power project chief security officer who is alleged to have concealed facts about torching of the all-important record.

Sources told Dawn on Thursday that Chief Security Officer Rana Mehtab Alam, being complainant of the case, had a case registered with the Aroop police against his two security guards Imtiaz Khan and Salahuddin on the allegation of torching crucial record of furnace oil. Police also arrested them.

When Muzaffargarh power station inquiry team and other investigators recorded the statements of several officials including the storekeeper and senior clerk, they found out that the complainant of the case was concealing facts. He later went into hiding and got an interim bail from the Lahore High Court till Sept 24.

Sources said the Water and Power Ministry had forwarded a memorandum to the city police officer asking him to allow the project director to pursue the case as the complainant would be arrested soon.

A Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) inquiry team is expected to visit Nandipur on Sept 28 to conduct an inquiry.
