War seems imminent, says JI leader

SWABI, Dec 31: Provincial Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Prof Mohammad Ibrahim, said on Monday that war between the two nuclear powers of South Asia seemed imminent.

Talking to party workers and journalists, he said the United States and Britain had already said that those struggling for independence in the occupied Kashmir were terrorists.

He said Washington and the Western powers were siding with India and had encouraged it to deploy troops and sophisticated weapons along the borders.

“It had been predicted by analysts that when the US had achieved it objectives in Afghanistan, it would make the Indians turn their guns towards Kashmir and Pakistan and looking at the military buildup scenario, war between India and Pakistan was quite imminent,” he said.

He said the US, the UK and the United Nations must differentiate between struggle against occupation forces and activities of terrorist organizations.

He castigated the US for declaring the Lashkar-i-Taiba and Jaish-i-Mohammad as terrorist organizations and opposed the government crackdown against them. The Indian government, he said, had made unjust demand for banning the jihadi organizations while refusing to give the right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people.
