Aisam, Lindstedt duo make quarters

LAHORE: The unseeded duo of Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt on Monday defeated fifth-seeded pair of Jean Julien Rojer of Holland and Horia Tecau of Romania in the doubles match of the US Open to make it to the quarter-final.

According to the information received here, it was an emotional contest as ex-partners faced each other on both sides of the net.

“It’s not easy to be up against your ex-partner but I am happy that we were able to pull through,” said a happy sounding Aisam who along with his partner won the match with the score of 6-3, 7-6 (7/4).

Earlier, in the second round Aisam and Robert beat the tenth-seeded pair of Finland’s Henri Konitinen and Australia’s John Peers after a grueling three-set match with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (9/7), 6-3.

Aisam and his partner will face top seed French pair of Nicholas Mahut and P. Herbert in the quarter-final.

This is Aisam’s 10th appearance in US Open doubles and has reached quarter-finals or above for the fifth time.
