ISLAMABAD: Saudi De­­fence Minister Mohammad bin Salman, while flying to China for a three-day visit, will make a stopover in Islamabad on Sunday.

Prince Salman and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will hold a one-to-one meeting at the Nur Khan Base.

The defence minister’s meeting with Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif could not be planned till late on Saturday evening.

The visiting minister and the premier will discuss bilateral relations in reference to defence cooperation, security, fight against terrorism and regional situation.

Prince Salman last visited Pakistan in January at the peak of his country’s tensions with Iran over the execution of Saudi dissident Sheikh Nimr.

The Saudi prince then had come for the promotion of a 34-nation counterterrorism coalition.

The Saudi defence minister will leave for Beijing for the Aug 29-31 visit to participate in the first-ever Saudi-China Inter­govern­mental Joint Committee meeting.
