PESHAWAR: Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif visited the Army Medical Corps (AMC), Abbottabad, on Friday, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

While interacting with officers and men of the corps, he appreciated the contribution and sacrifices of doctors and paramedic staff in improving the standard of healthcare both in peace and war, especially during the fight against terrorism.

He lauded the AMC’s efforts in upgradation of hospitals, particularly the liver transplant unit, and hands and upper limbs surgery centre. The AMC’s training establishments such as the National University Medical Sciences and paramedics training institutes were serving in development of human resources and skill sets, he remarked.

Gen Raheel noted that the AMC had always answered the call of duty during national calamities both inland and abroad, and in disaster management.

He said medical science was progressing at a rapid pace, and it was imperative for doctors to keep themselves abreast of latest developments.

Later, the army chief pinned badges of rank on the shoulders of Lt Gen Asif Mumtaz Sukhera to formally install him as the Colonel Commandant of the corps.
