GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) claims to have arrested the irrigation department chief engineer and other officers of Narowal in a Rs40 million graft case.
ACE Regional Director Rana Abdul Shakoor, along with a team, visited Narowal and arrested the chief engineer, two superintendent engineers, three executive engineers and 10 officials.
Mr Shakoor told Dawn that the Punjab government had approved a Rs50 million drainage project for Narowal and Rs40.5 million were released.
The irrigation officers and contractor embezzled the amount and a case was registered against them, he added.
TAX FRAUD: The Regional Tax Directorate arrested six people including a known cloth trader on the charge of tax fraud of Rs20.75 million and scuffling with a raiding team.
An official team produced the accused (trader) in the Special Customs Court in Lahore and obtained his physical remand for six days.
Deputy Commissioner Land and Revenue Tanveer Iqbal said a team went to Rail Bazaar to check record and a shop owner and his salesmen resisted. He said six people were taken into custody after a tax fraud was detected.
