Learn different languages

This is with reference to the website review “Learn different languages” by Asif Ali (YW, August 6).

I agree with the writer that we only know two or three language at the most and learning multiple languages is an advantage in this globalised age.

It is really great for kids to learn languages from a very young age through games and activities on websites.

The Rakhi festival

Raksha Bandhan is among the most important festivals celebrated in the Hindu community, commonly known as Rakhi Purnima.

Rakhi is the most awaited festival by young ladies, especially sisters. The festival is viewed as a non denominational, multicultural event. It centres on the mutual bond of protection whereby siblings pray for each others’ wellbeing. So basically it’s not necessary that the festival can only be celebrated by siblings.

Any man who considers a particular lady as his sister, and promises to protect her forever can celebrate this festival. Their relationship is purified by performing the necessary rituals.

The ritual starts when a sister ties a decorated thread around the wrist of her proclaimed brother and moves the pooja thali in a circular motion seven times. This is called the arti.

The traditional thali for arti includes a rakhi, tilak, sweets and uncooked rice and a diya.

Along with the rituals, the sister prays for the better health and success of the brother and in return the brother gives her a gift and promises to protect her forever.

The glittering diary

This is with reference to the story “The glittering diary” by Wardah Saleem (YW, July 9). The story was nicely written and highlighted the fact that how easily kids get influenced by their peers.

If children have good friends, naturally will they adopt a good lifestyle and if the friends have bad habits, soon they will come under their influence. So I feel parents should always be watchful of their kids’ activities.
