Probe into fraud demanded

MIRPURKHAS, Dec 3: Nazims of seven union councils of the City taluka have called upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf and the National Reconstruction Bureau chairman to order a judicial inquiry into embezzlement of funds of the Taluka Municipal Administration.

Speaking at a joint press conference held at the office of the union council-1 Nazim here on Wednesday, UC-1 Nazim Mirza Masroor Baig, UC-2 Nazim Yawar Ali Khan, UC-3 Nazim Malik Liaquat Ali, UC-4 Nazim Abdul Salam Baig, UC-5 Nazim Abdul Rahim Makrani, UC-6 Nazim Chaudhry Iftikhar Arain and UC-7 Nazim Hazrat Ali Shah alleged that millions of rupees of different heads of the TMA were embezzled by Mirpurkhas Taluka Nazim Syed Inayat Ali Shah and other officials through fake vouchers and bills.

They said as a result poor sanitary conditions had prevailed in the city and the people were facing hardships. They said heaps of garbage could been seen everywhere in the city.

They said 150 persons were also appointed as sweepers on daily wages after they paid illegal gratification to officials concerned.

The Nazims said encroachments were increasing in the city which were hampering smooth flow of traffic.

They regretted that they had not been delegated powers under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance.

They said the taluka Nazim and TMO and other officials were violating the SLGO.

The UC Nazims said Cattle Colony had been shifted outside the city but many cattle pens still existed in the city.

LIQOUR SALE: Residents of the town have appealed to the Sindh governor and the chief minister to take action against those who were selling liqour.

Talking to this correspondent on Wednesday they said hundreds of people, most of them Muslims, were purchasing wine from two shops run with the support of excise police.

They said teenagers were approaching the shops and other dens to purchase wine.
