Quetta win Balochistan Football Cup

QUETTA:Hosts Quetta defeated Chamman 2-1 in the final to clinch the PPLBalochistan Football Cup-2016 that concluded at the Ayub Stadium here on Friday.

The final was a thrilling affair between the two traditional rivals of football. Both teams adopted an attacking strategy since the beginning of the match and made a number of forays to exert pressure.

Quetta forwards, however, availed the opportunity in the 14th minute when their midfielder and team captain Nazeer Ahmed beautifully headed the ball into the net on a corner hit from Rajab Ali. In the 20th minute Nazeer again struck through a header to double to give lead to his team.

Chamman players tried hard to reduce the deficit throughout the match and made a couple of serious moves which were thwarted by Quetta’s defenders. Chamman players continued their attacks in the second half as well through Wasey, Ismatullah and international Hayatullah but their passing was faulty.

Nevertheless, in the 85th minute of the match Hayatullah entered the penalty area where he beat the defender and the goal keeper to score the only goal for his team.

At the end Provincial Sports Minister Mir Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and PPL CEO Mohammed Hasani distributed the prizes among the teams and the players. Quetta was awarded a cash prize of Rs.500,000 while Chamman walked away with a cash prize of Rs 250,000.—Asif Suhail
