QUETTA: The Balochis-tan government has decided to give awards on the Independence Day to people who have shown excellent performance in various fields in the province.

Balochistan government’s spokesman Anwarul Haq Kakar announced this at a press conference here on Friday.

He said the decision had been taken with the aim to recognising the services and performance of people.

The fields in which the excellence awards will be given include education, health, sports, academia, art and culture, social work, research and science. The awards will be given in three categories, including Lifetime Achievement and Excellence Awards.

“The basic objective of announcing the excellence awards is to bring those people forward who can become role models,” Mr Kakar said.

He said after consultation with people of different walks of life, the government had decided to introduce the excellence awards.

He said various names had been selected for the awards. A committee headed by Speaker of Balochistan Assembly Raheela Durrani would recommend some names and final decision would be taken by a committee headed by the chief minister.

Mr Kakar said the names of selected people for the awards would be announced on Aug 14.

Answering a question, he said it was for the first time that such awards had been announced by the provincial government. He hoped that the practice would continue in coming years.
