Bombers linked to Al Qaeda: Turkey

Published December 2, 2003

ANKARA, Dec 1: Turkey said on Monday the four suicide bombers who detonated massive truck bombs in Istanbul last month killing themselves and 57 other people were linked to the Al Qaeda network.

“According to current information, those who were involved in the incidents as suicide bombers and people who are related to them are seen as close to Al Qaeda, they have emerged as people with links to the Al Qaeda terrorist organization,” Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener told reporters.

Sener was speaking after a cabinet meeting discussed the attacks on two synagogues on November 15 and on the British consulate and the HSBC bank five days later. Police have identified the bombers as Turkish extremists.—AFP
