SIALKOT, Nov 30: The ceasefire in the border areas of Sialkot and Narowal has helped farmers cultivate wheat in their fields after a long gap.

According to official sources, the cash-strapped farmers have started cultivating the seasonal crop for the first time since 2001-02. These farmers were subsisting on their seasonal crops before.

However, they are still awaiting the relief package promised by the federal and provincial governments. They have urged upon the district government to extend them small loans for purchasing seeds, fertilizers and farm machinery.

SUI GAS: All the villages on the Sialkot-Saidpur Road will be provided Sui gas for which a four-kilometre pipeline will soon be laid down, according to MNA Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan.

Talking to newsmen, she said the project would cost Rs13.4 million and work on it would start on Dec 10, as she had provided money from her special discretionary funds.
