TOBA TEK SINGH: Police on Wednesday released a minor boy who was to be married to an adult woman against the law at a ceremony held at Chak 717-GB, Kamalia, on Tuesday.

Shorkot Cantonment police had raided the ceremony, detaining the 10-year-old would-be groom, Ali Sher, along with Nikah Khwan Hafiz Muhammad Tahir.

The parents of the groom and 22-year-old would-be bride had fled the scene along with the guests.

On Wednesday, the police released the minor boy, while booked Hafiz Tahir.

Investigation officer Muhammad Boota told this correspondent by telephone that due to his age, the minor boy was released, while a case had been registered against Nikah Khwan and the girl’s father under the Punjab Child Marriage Act.
