THE British parliament holds a weekly session, Prime Minister’s Questions. As the name suggests, the PM takes questions on all governance matters from the opposition and treasury benches and give answers.
It is a nerve-wracking exercise.
Imagine being grilled by a house of lawmakers, but it is also amazing. To see how eloquently the prime minister answers every question indicates his/her grasp of all matters going in the country and the world. This session is telecast live, a glorious example of democracy and transparency of governance.
This prime minister’s questions is a box-office show because it deals with problems relating to all segments of society. A lot of people watch the live telecast with interest, and it is a win-win situation for the three parties — government, opposition and the public.
We should also have a weekly prime minister questions session in parliament. This will be informative for the people besides bringing transparency in governance and strengthen democracy.
