PESHAWAR: A suspected target killer who shot and injured son of an Awami National Party’s general councillor was arrested in the limits of Yakatoot police station on Wednesday.

Police told Dawn that the local people managed to grab one of the attackers and handed him over to police, while the other one escaped from the scene. The injured was identified as Mir Zaman, son of Zargarabad neighborhood council nazim Mosam Khan.

Peshawar SSP operations Abbas Majeed Marwat confirmed that one of the alleged attackers was in the police custody. He said that they were interrogating him.

A local resident told Dawn that the incident took place at around 11:00am on Wednesday when two motorcyclists opened fire on a group of people in Beri Bagh area of the city, located outside Zargarabad.

He said that the attackers were wearing masks and one of them was grabbed by locals and handed over to Yakatoot police. The police have registered an FIR and started investigations.

Separately, a 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in a hotel in Namakmandi area here on Wednesday.

A police official told Dawn that the family belonging to Bannu was in the city for medical treatment for the past two days. He said that mother of the girl told police that the teenager went to washroom in the morning and did not come out for long. She said that they broke the door and found her hanging from shower. The official said that they were investigating the incident.
