PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have purchased drone cameras for security purposes.

This was disclosed at a meeting of the Regional Police Officers (RPOs) which took place here on Tuesday chaired by KP Police Chief Nasir Khan Durrani. The meeting was informed that the drone cameras would be deployed for security surveillance of Muharram processions, activities in militant-infested areas, around sensitive and vulnerable establishments and places and during raids conducted by elite and rapid response force.

The meeting also discussed working of CIA police pickets established at the jails across the province. These pickets have been established for surveillance of accused and convicts involved in commission of offences against property, robbery, motor vehicle theft, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and terrorism cases.

These pickets are equipped with digital cameras, finger-print recording and identification devices and computers. The snaps and finger-prints of all accused released are recorded in the systems and the respective police stations are informed to monitor their activities.

IGP Mr Durrani directed the RPOs to personally supervise and monitor the various IT-based initiatives of police.

The IGP also stressed on surveillance of persons on Schedule-IV list through ensuring their monthly attendance in police stations, maintenance of their history sheets, monitoring of their activities and ascertaining their means of subsistence.
