ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday criticised the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for giving a clean chit to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in a money laundering case and appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to intervene and control NAB.

In a statement, Mr Khan expressed concern over some recent decisions of NAB.

“If NAB and other offices had been doing their job today, money laundering would have stopped completely. NAB has badly failed to fulfil its job. Initially, NAB included Mr Dar’s name in 179 cases of corruption and submitted the list in the Supreme Court,” he said.

“However now NAB has closed the case claiming that there was no evidence available against Mr Dar. NAB should inform that what kind of steps it took during the last 15 years to prove the case or it just wasted money from the exchequer,” he said.

“It is not understandable that how a case, which is already being heard in the court, can be closed. There is already unrest in the country because of Panama Papers leaks. Giving a clean chit to Ishaq Dar should be quite embarrassing for NAB,” he said.

“If NAB would have been doing its job, dollars of Pakistanis would not be in offshore companies. Former chairman NAB Fasih Bokhari also claimed that there was daily corruption of Rs12 billion in Pakistan,” he said.

The PTI chief said that PML-N could go to any extent to serve its interest.

“NAB is busy saving the rulers due to which it has lost its reputation. The Supreme Court should intervene and control NAB under Article 190/ (3) 184 to improve the performance of NAB,” said Mr Khan.
