ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali have said eradication of sectarianism and promotion of unity among the ranks of the Muslims is their top priority.

In their Eidul Fitr messages, they said: “We will do our utmost for the defence of our country and continue our efforts for its development and prosperity.”

The president, in his message, said: “On the blessed occasion of Eidul Fitr, I extend my heartiest felicitations to the Muslims of the entire Islamic world in general and to the people of Pakistan in particular.

“Thanks to Allah Almighty who endowed upon us the fervour to observe fast during Ramazan with due forbearance, fortitude and passion of submission.”

He said the blessings of such religious ardour “enabled us to remain modest and humble and devoted throughout the holy month of Ramazan and to bow our heads before Allah Almighty who granted us opportunity to show reverence towards the holy month”.

President Musharraf said with the blessing of Allah Almighty, no unpleasant incident occurred during the month and for this he congratulated the nation, government and law enforcement agencies.

“I hope that the nation would not only keep its distance from the menace of sectarianism, but would also assist the government in its eradication,” he said.

The prime minister, in his message, said Eidul Fitr was a festival celebrated worldwide by the Muslims.

He said Ramazan was a month to express kindness towards others and develop peace and harmony. These instructions invite us to practically show mutual affection, brotherhood and unity towards others and share out happiness with all our brothers, sisters, elders and the younger ones.

“On the blessed occasion, I convey my deepest felicitation to all of you. I pray to Allah Almighty to save our country from every crisis and calamities and open gateways of His blessings and benevolence on us,” the prime minister added.
