The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday expressed concern over K-Electric’s failure to maintain power supply after a spell of monsoon rain in Karachi.

“K-Electric did not take preemptive measures despite warnings issued by the Nepra,” said Tariq Saddozai, chairman of Nepra, while hearing a petition to determine fuel adjustment prices.

The chairmen added K-Electric was advised well before time to take steps for providing uninterrupted power supply to the people of Karachi during the rainy season.

“It seems that K-Electric does not care of the people of Karachi.”

Nepra’s chairman held the management of Karachi’s electric utility responsible for delay in restoration of power after the rains ended.

“Even after 30 hours, electricity was not restored in some areas,” added Saddozai.

He also urged K-Electric to take solid measures for restoring electricity across the metropolis and ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.

Nepra in March had slapped a fine of Rs10 million on KE for power crisis in Karachi in June last year that led to deaths of hundreds of people due to heat-related medical complications.
