LAHORE: A firefighter was injured while controlling the fire in the warehouse of an electronics factory near the Raiwind Road on Sunday.

According to a rescue official, the fire broke out in the Haier Electronics Factory at 4pm and a fire engine was dispatched to control it. As the rescue team reached the spot, the fire started spreading to other parts of the warehouse and soon it engulfed the whole building. Later, 12 more fire engines and two ambulances were sent to the spot. The firefighters remained busy in the operation for at least two hours but could not control the fire. One firefighter was injured and he was shifted to hospital.

Sensing the intensity of fire, support from nearby districts was also called. Two vehicles from Kasur, two from Gujranwala, one each from Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib reached the Raiwind Road and took part in the operation.

District Emergency Officer Ahmad Raza said at least 80 percent of the operation had been completed and it would take a couple of hours more (after this report was filed) to control it.

He said it was a huge warehouse of highly inflammable plastic, used in electronics. The operation was going on while this report was filed. Valuables worth of millions were gutted in the fire.
