Important leads uncovered in Sabri murder case, claims CM Qaim

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday said law enforcers have uncovered important leads in famed qawwal Amjad Sabri's murder case.

Speaking during a Sindh Assembly session, the CM announced a Rs10 million grant for the late qawwal's family and also offered Sabri's widow a government job while claiming that he was hopeful the killers will be arrested soon.

About the recent kidnapping of Sindh High Court chief justice's son Awais Shah, he claimed that a nine member committee had been formed to investigate the crime.

He maintained that those who committed the "heinous crime" want to harass the judiciary.

"We have announced that anyone providing information regarding Amjad Sabri or Owais Shah case will get 10 million rupees from Sindh government," Qaim said.

Famed qawwal Amjad Sabri was shot dead on Wednesday afternoon in a targeted attack on his car by armed motorcyclists in Liaquatabad.

The 40-year-old Sabri, son of qawwali maestro Ghulam Farid Sabri, was heading to a private TV channel to perform in a Ramazan transmission when he was attacked, police had said.

On Tuesday, just 48 hours before Amjad Sabri’s murder, the Sindh High Court chief justice’s son Awais Ali Shah was kidnapped in broad daylight from Clifton.

Both incidents have raised question marks over the gains made in the Karachi operation which was started two years ago in September 2013.

My cousin got kidnapped for ransom, the kidnapper asking for 30 Lacs where should we go for help. I know my cousin is not a son of Chief Justice but he has mother and father who will bring their son back to them. We don't want this democratic government who is working so hard for celebrities and for higher ups but not for ordinary man should be removed now.

How come CM or any other official offered govt job to widow thy should consult first with her and Sabri's family as this is not norms of Sabri's family. Govt should act maturely like Company Huwaei showed responsible act and sponsored all Sabri's children education til completion. AMJAD SABRI gave honour to Pakistan in world now its our Govt duty to honored his acheivments not by words practically prove.

We are a dead nation.Thousands of people have been killed in Karachi due to incompetence,nepotism and corruption in government departments.Instead of finding permanent solution of the security lapses and handing power to the local government of Karachi they are still bend upon to continue their corrupt raj on the people of Karachi.It is a fact that 80% of security forces in Karachi are posted in Defence and Clifton for securing the political/Security high ups.

Martyred Amjad Sabri was not rich, prominent, religious icon or glamouring star but a patriotic Pakistani. Linking him with political pundits and professional earners is injustice. Tears uncontrollably start falling from the clouds of eyes imaging his coldblooded slaughtering. Death of a devotee and an end of an aesthete. He was soft image of Pakistan and cultural ambassador of this heartland equally adored from around the world. Shining politics on the fragrance of his funeral flowers is unacceptable.

In the incompetent universe of CM of Sindh, and political parlance, 'close to making arrests' means, they have just opened investigation. Any actual apprehensions of killers may, or may not be few months away - or never -- as is the case with thousands of other unresolved target killings, kidnappings and random shooting at security personal in Karachi shows, over the past decades! So, please, no one hold their breaths!

Only in Pakistan, do you find 'committees' being set up to investigate routine crimes, instead of the Police whose job it is. And why committees? Who are these committee members? Did they qualify from FBI academy, MI5, Scotland Yard, or have Forensic Expertise?? I bet these 9 members will set around in Air Condition Bungalows and Offices, and just issuing statements and claims, or chatting on their phones. And will do no 'investigations' for which they have no skills.

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah got up from his slumber and is taking action to arrest murderers of Amjad Sabri and track kidnappers of CJ's son. Such efficiency should also be shown for all other crimes. Offering reward money for information leading to the arrest of these criminals and terrorists is excellent plan. Such reward money should also be offered for tips exposing corrupt officials. NAB and FIA should set up special phone numbers / websites so people can inform them. Informants info would be kept confidential and protected by law. There is no other mechanism at this time to track corruption. Lets expand the "rewards" program.

@Syed(Australia) People are killed everyday except the rates for ransom and police bhatta have gone high , there is no peace in the city . The new normal is the acceptance of killing and kidnapping . Rangers are just short term solutions and long term solutions are in the empowerment of locals , development schemes and jobs for the youth .

With all do respect. Instead of giving out funds to the Sabri family, I don't believe they need monetary aid, they need justice. The funds should be provided to provide support to the families who have faced such crimes and don't have any other means.
