PESHAWAR: Girl students of different private schools have clinched the top three positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) annual examinations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Peshawar.

The results were announced on Tuesday at the board offices. All the top three position holders are from the science group. The top 10 positions were achieved by 14 students, among them only one boy student.

Ali Shah Gulalai Amjad, a student of Frontier Youth Academy, Hayatabad, Peshawar, got the first position with 1,042 marks out of total 1,100. Two students of the Peshawar Model School, Charsadda, Aleeza Gul and Maria Maqsood stood second and third by securing 1,039 and 1,038 marks, respectively.

The arts group was topped by Abdul Basit, a student of Usmania Children Academy, Nauthia Jadeed, Peshawar with 952 marks. Nadia Khan, a student of Agriculture University Public School and College, Peshawar, who got 938 marks was declared second. Mahnoor Khurshid of Forward Public School (Girls), Hayatabad, secured 936 marks to grab third position.

A total of 70,339 students appeared in the examinations, of which 56,247 were declared successful with a pass percentage of 79.97 per cent. The result was declared at a ceremony at the BISE, Peshawar, which was participated by the position holders and their relatives. Board chairman Mohammad Shafi Afridi was the chief guest on the occasion.

Shafi Afridi said on the occasion that several reforms had been introduced in the examination system and checking of papers during the last few years. He said that efforts were afoot for introducing the best examination system to minimise chances of cheating.

He said that the Peshawar board had started multiple choice questions checking through optical marks recognition machines, which would help in early declaration of results.

In Bannu, the students of science group of different private schools clinched top three positions in the annual SSC examinations as the BISE, Bannu, announced the results on Tuesday.

Mohammad Ibrar, a student of Faiz Model High School, Lakki Marwat, got the first position with 1,036 marks. Mohammad Zubair of Akram Khan Durrani College, Bannu, secured second position by obtaining 1,031 marks, while a girl student of Army Public School and College Shafaq Ilyas stood third with 1,028 marks.

The arts group was topped by Sana Gul of Government Girls High School, Bazaar Ahmed Khan, who obtained 881 marks. Haseebullah, a private candidate, and Resham, a student of Government Girls High School, Bazaar Ahmed Khan, were declared second and third by securing 860 and 859 marks, respectively.
