PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) on Monday announced a three-member squad for the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship to be staged in Beijing from July 6 to 10.

The announcement in this connection was made after a month-long camp at Peshawar’s Pakistan Sports Board Coaching Centre was held under the supervision of the PSB in collaboration with the PWF and the KP Wrestling Association (KPWA).

Talking to APP, KPWA secretary Abdul Qayyum Shinwari said the wrestlers received rigorous training under coaches Niamatullah and Zahidullah.

Initially, he said, there were 20 wrestlers selected from across the country, adding that from among them only two were selected to represent Pakistan in the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship.

Shinwari, who is also coach of the China-bound squad, hoped that the team comprising Inayatullah (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Ghulam Raza Ghos (Punjab) would produce good results in the championship.

He also praised PSB director general Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, PWF president Chaudhry Asghar and secretary general Arshad Sattar for taking keen interest in providing the best available facilities to the wrestlers during the month-long camp.

According to Shinwari, a total of 25 wrestlers, 15 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 10 from Punjab were currently training under international coaches Niamatullah and Zahidullah.

“Besides shortlisting two wrestlers from the camp for the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship, a team will also be announced by the PWF shortly for the forthcoming International Wrestling Championship in Moscow,” the KPWA secretary announced.

Meanwhile, Ghos and Inayatullah expressed satisfaction over the training they were receiving from Niamatullah and Zahid under the guidance of head coach Shinwari.

“We are fully capable of winning positions in the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship,” said the wrestlers, both of whom were currently were at No. 1 national ranking in their respective weight categories.
