LAHORE, Nov 23: The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency of the Lahore Development Authority will install traffic sensors at 16 road crossings.
These sensors will be installed at an estimated cost of Rs5 million at the Racecourse Park, Eden Centre and Gulberg Main Road fountain crossings on Jail Road; China Chowk crossing on Racecourse Road; LDA Plaza T crossing on Egerton Road, Gulab Devi Hospital, Ittefaq Hospital, Naseerabad, Model Town and Qadhafi Stadium crossings on Ferozepur Road, Muslim Town, F.C. College and Shah Jamal Canal bridges crossings along the canal; PMG and Civil Secretariat crossings on Lower Mall and Begum Road T crossing on Lytton Road.
The sensors will regulate the operation of signals in accordance with the traffic load on road crossings.
These will keep the green light on a particular crossing entry till all the vehicles have crossed it instead of allowing it to be switched off in accordance with the programmed time limit.
Traffic police will thus not have to control the traffic at busy crossings manually during peak hours until and unless they want to switch off the signals to facilitate uninterrupted movement of the cars of ministers and bureaucrats for showing their efficiency.
Traffic sensors have already been installed at Avari T crossing on Shahrah-i-Quaid-i-Azam and Centre Point crossing on Gulberg Main Boulevard. —Reporter
