PESHAWAR, Dec 30: Senior correspondent of Dawn, Intikhab  Amir, was elected president of Peshawar Press Club here on Saturday.

In the annual election, Mr Amir defeated his rival candidate, Shoukat  Yousafzai of daily Al-Akhbar, with a margin of 59 votes, getting 118 votes against Mr Yousafzai’s 59.

According to the results announced on Saturday night by the election committee chairman, for the post of secretary-general, Saiful Islam Saifi of daily Pakistan received 114 votes against 64 votes bagged by Jamshed Baghwan of daily Mashriq.

Zalan Mohmand of daily Aaj was elected vice-president by receiving 112 votes, whereas his rival candidate, Aamir Wakeel of ANN got 56 votes. Nisar Mahmud of The News was elected treasurer with 113 votes, whereas Ghaffar Baig of Online received 60 votes.

Abdul Wadud Baig of dailyNawa-i-Pakistan became joint secretary by receiving 114 votes whereas his rival, Nouman Qaiser of dailyMaidan, bagged 61 votes.
