COLOMBO (Sri Lanka), Nov 22: England all-rounder Paul Collingwood said on Saturday the team remains confident of squaring the one-day international cricket series against Sri Lanka.

After losing the first match by 10 wickets, and the second being washed out on Friday, England must secure victory on Sunday to level the three-match series.

“We are looking forward to tomorrow’s game. We have to go into it and build partnerships in a positive manner,” Collingwood told reporters after a practice session.

“Hopefully the weather will be fine for tomorrow, and we go in there and square the series.”

Collingwood top scored for England in Tuesday’s match with 31 runs in 96 balls. He has played in 42 one-day internationals and scored 998 runs at 34 runs per innings.

A new-look Sri Lankan pace attack that included two debutants destroyed the English top order in Tuesday’s match, dismissing them 88, England’s second lowest total in one-day internationals.

The best partnership came from the last pair of Ashley Giles and James Anderson who made a combined 21 runs.

Sri Lanka skipper Marvan Atapattu said it was disappointing that rain washed out Friday’s match, and said the team must maintain its concentration if it wants to win the series.

Meteorologist Ajith Wijemanna said weather is unlikely to decide the series, with more sunshine expected by Sunday.—APP/AP
