RAWALPINDI, Nov 22: The judge of the anti-terrorism court No 1, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, on Saturday granted permission to the legal counsel of the chief of outlawed Islami Tehrik Pakistan (ITP), Allama Sajid Naqvi, to meet him.

At present, Allama Naqvi is undergoing a seven-day physical remand.

The permission was granted to the counsel, Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi, who on November 20, had moved an application before the court praying for meeting the Allama who is in custody of the Sihala police.

The counsel had moved the application under Article 10 of the 1973 Constitution and Section 167 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) which allowed a legal practitioner to see his client undergoing police investigation.

The counsel will meet Allama Naqvi between 10am to 12:30 noon on Sunday, the court observed. Earlier, the police had not allowed the counsel to see the Allama.

The counsel told Dawn that since family members of Allama Sajid Naqvi are also not being allowed to meet him, therefore, he would submit an application, praying for a similar concession, to the same court on November 24.

The Golra police had registered a case against the Allama under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and Section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for his alleged involvement in the murder of Maulana Azam Tariq.
