MURREE: A 19-year-old school teacher was tortured and set on fire after refusing a marriage proposal on Tuesday, reported DawnNews.
The victim's uncle, Nasir Abbassi, stated the family had gone to a social gathering and the victim was alone at home when the incident occurred.
"A group of five men forcibly entered the house, locked her in a room and beat her up," claimed Abbassi.
The suspects, after beating the victim, set her on fire and threw her in a ditch behind the victim's residence, added Abbassi.
The family, after being informed by a local boy, rushed home and took the girl out of the ditch and took her to the local hospital for treatment.
Treatment was denied at the local hospital, citing lack capability to deal with burn victims. The girl was then transferred to PIMS in Islamabad.
The family of the girl approached Murree police to register a case, but the case was not registered and no action taken, claimed the girl's uncle.
The girl has suffered burns over 85 per cent of her body, doctors told DawnNews. They added they are trying their best to save the girl's life, but her condition is serious.
Earlier in May, a 16-year-old girl was strangled and set on fire in Galyat's Makol village after orders given by a local jirga.
Abbottabad police had said a 15-member jirga called by the Makol village councillor Pervez ordered for the deceased, Ambreen, to be killed and set on fire as punishment for helping her friend escape the village to marry of her free will.
The girl was taken from her home to an abandoned house where she was drugged, killed, and placed in the backseat of a parked van. The van was then doused with petrol and set on fire.

In my opinion all women/girls should be removed from Pak and let the Pak be the country of men, I think men will be very happy to live among themselves. All women problem will be solved - Mullah can mary Mullah (no need for light beating then) and Wdera can mary Wadera (no need for honor killing etc) and so on. Life will be perfect for all men in Pak.

What kind of animal behaviour is that?. Even animals would feel insulted by my statement. Pakistan is probably the worst country in the world for adult girls. What a disgusting bevahiour of the police as well. Is there no one in Pakistan to take care of things like this?. We are a dead nation in every respect.

Local hospitals ALWAYS refuse to treat police case victims in Pakistan.
In Pakistan an FIR is a privilege, Not a Right.
Please refrain from mentioning other similar cases, it only serves to dilute the present one.

Very sad, but not surprised. When we have people like Shirani who encourage men to beat women. The Fatwa is issued from a judicial platform then there is no chance of any improvement in the society. My sincere prayers for the young lady's full recovery. I also pray to The God Almighty that this will be last atrocity against women in Pakistan.

The first culprit in this case are the Murree police. How dare they refuse to file a case!
The police apathy and inaction encourage less civilised people to act like animals (apologies to animals). If seen from another angle, these people have the permission of the police to commit such barbaric acts.
Shame on the Murree police!!! By not taking action, refusing to take complaint , they have ensured more girls like her are barbarically raped/killed/tortured. Shame on them!!

And whats with the comments about the country, this is NOT reflective of Pakistani but the actions of a few sick individuals. Catch these culprits and ask Pakistanis what they would do to them. In Islam the concept is equity in punishment. These barbarians should aslo be burned alive for their actions. They deserve no sympathy. The State should be firm and resolute and award exemplary punishments to ward off such evil behaviour. A tooth for a tooth and eye for an eye formula should be applied in such cases as envisaged in Islam. One of the reasons we suffer from natural disasters like earthquakes, floods and droughts are actions like these and no justice for the victims. The Mullahs shoud set aside their differences on this matter and issue a Fatwa applicable to crimes of such heinous nature. If people are not safe in their homes, then where else. Swift, Firm and Unrelenting Justice needs to be provided at the doorstep of the common man. The police personnel who refused to register a case should all be terminated and criminal proceedings be initiated against them for complicity, neglect and dereliction of duty. Such cases need to be dispensed off on a priority basis in courts
