KHANEWAL: An 18-year old girl has died, and her aunt seriously injured, after an incident of attempted rape on Monday.

The aunt and her niece were kidnapped by unknown individuals and taken to a private clinic in the city's Block 5 area.

"Unknown people had kidnapped the girl and her aunt, and had taken them to a two-floor private clinic," said Khanewal's District Police Officer Jahanzaib Nazir Khan.

"The suspects tried to rape the women, and in order to save themselves, both jumped from the second floor," added Khan.

The girl's aunt was admitted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for treatment, while the girl was declared dead on arrival, and her body was sent for postmortem.

Law-enforcement officials have started an investigation and have sealed the clinic.

Earlier in May, a married woman was set ablaze after she foiled an alleged rape bid in Muzaffargarh.

Police quoting the victim said an unidentified suspect tried to rape her when she was asleep in the afternoon.

On resistance, he sprinkled oil on her, set the woman ablaze and managed his escape.

She was referred to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, from DHQ Hospital. Doctors said the woman suffered 30 per cent burns.
