ISLAMABAD: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad police on Monday arrested five members of an inter-province gang of robbers.

Police officials said two of the gang members had tried to rob three siblings – Waheed Raza, Ali Raza and Kaleem Raza – on gunpoint when the brothers were paying a local business owner in the Bhara Kahu market Rs2.6 million on April 23, which they had just drawn from a bank.

The robbers had opened fire when the brothers put up resistance. Waheed and Kaleem sustained bullet injuries and were taken to the hospital where Kaleem was pronounced dead.

On April 23, they targeted a bank to which members of the gang travelled to in a Mehran and two motorcycles.

One of the robbers went into the bank to select a target while the rest waited outside. When the victim had withdrawn the amount, the robber had told his accomplices to follow him.

It was also found that the gang had robbed Raja Matiur Rehman of Rs1.3 million on February 22 after he drew the amount from a bank in Satellite Town Rawalpindi.
